Hello.
My name is Nikki.
I have a job. Do you have a job?
I'm not bragging if you don't. I'm just making conversation.
So at this job that I have, I'm coming up on my one year anniversary.
I was given a sheet today to fill out for my review. If you've never had to fill one of these out (lucky duck), it is basically a form that asks you to evaluate your performance over the specified amount of time. In my case, the past year.
Now there are a few ways to go when filling out a self-evaluation.
You could sit there and praise yourself for all the work you've done.
You could find all your faults and write them down.
You could lie.
You could tell the truth.
You could eat cheese.... oh wait. Scratch that.
The list goes on. So what do you choose? *cough* cheese *cough*
I obviously want to be 100% truthful. However, I don't feel comfortable praising myself. (I know that may come as a bit of a shock to some of you, heh.) I mean, none of us are perfect but I don't want to sell myself short for any reason. I don't want to sound cocky either... so where is the happy medium?
I have until friday to think this through. I'm sure I will come up with what I want to bring across to them.
With my review comes a lunch out with the bosses (well, 2 of the 3). Which will be a great time to talk about what my new position really is and about how I think things are going "downstairs".
Speaking of new positions... I GOT A PROMOTION!
I mean, *clears throat* I got a promotion.
One of the girls I worked with (let's call her MmeAwesome) had to leave and we replaced her position.. but she was doing above and beyond her position for a very long time. When I first got hired, we had 3 girls (including myself) "downstairs" doing admin work. A little less than a month after I got there, the 3rd girl left and MmeAwesome and I were by ourselves.
We only went a month and a bit like this until we hired someone new. MmeAwesome tried to train her... but this was just not the right job for her, so mid-march this new girl left. After that, MmeAwesome and I fended for ourselves. We were doing amazingly well (if you ask me) and everything was hunky-dorie. Then, MmeAwesome springs on us that she is going to be leaving probably in October. Her husband's job was going to be taking them away and so we were going to need to replace her, and not the position that remained open.
We found a replacement who started beginning of July (Let's call her... Enna) and while Enna can do the job as it is supposed to be, there was no way we could expect her to completly fill MmeAwesome's shoes as MmeAwesome had the experience that helped her do all the other jobs that needed to get done. So it came time to fill that third spot. I had never thought of that third spot to be "above" mine. As it never crossed my mind. However, in actuality it is. It is the last line of defense before things go out the door.
The day MmeAwesome was leaving, my bosses offered me the job.
It would have been silly to train the person above me... and I really would have felt more comfortable being the last line of defense anyway. So of course I said yes.
We hired a newbie who we will call "Newbie" for now... as she has only completed one week at my work.
TRAINING IS HARD! Just in case you were wondering. It is difficult to plan a timeframe for things to get done when you don't know how long it will take someone to do something. It is hard to guage where a person is in the training until you let them try on their own and make mistakes. It is interesting to see the things you find easy, be hard to others and the things you thought they would find difficult seem easy to them!
I just find that time runs away from me while I'm training. Trying to stay on top of everything I would normally do while training someone to do it is just the most absurd juggling act ever.
Ok... this is long... but I'm glad I got to write my some of my feelings out. PHEW!
GOODBYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYE!!!!!!!!!!

Vacation
So it feels like not too long ago that I just went to Vegas.... however, I had one more week to take for vacation and figured that this would be a good time to take it.
We are losing a girl at work and so she was still here to help the new girl... therefore, a good time to go.
When i booked this time off, I thought it may be a waste of time. Lots of sleeping perhaps... but it has actually turned out to be action packed, with not a day wasted!
If you're on my facebook you may have seen my photo updates every day with what I took pictures of that day.
Monday I went to the dentist in the morning. To learn that I have healthy teeth, I just need to go back twice to get the pits of my teeth filled.
Afterwards, Renee, Malcolm and I went to Saxe Pointe to walk the rocks.
Tuesday, I went to have lunch with Jacki. I forgot my wallet at home and was really embarrassed when i got to the counter. So I had coffee and a croissant thanks to Jacki. After that I walked back home, got my wallet and then walked to the bus stop to take a bus downtown to meet Juli! We shopped, had lunch then went to her house for board game, grocery shopping, and then made dinner. I was there until almost 2 am.
Wednesday, my mom came to pick me up around 10am. We went to Tim Hortons and I got coffee and timbits. Then we started our drive upto Nanaimo. I was getting my tea leaves read at this place called the calico cat. We had the reading, then drove back down, stopping at the Duncan WalMart and a vegetable market.
Thursday I had an eye doctor's appointment. I have been worried because far away has been feeling further away lately. Apparently, I have 20/20 vision, and I can struggle to read 20/15. Sooooooo, needless to say, my eyes are fine.
The eye doctor told me that if I ever need glasses, he predicts it will be in 20 years. After the eye doctor, i came back home and watched the third season of Dexter (almost all of them) with my brother. After that, board game weekend started!
Friday I got up around 11:30 and my mom picked me up for lunch. She and I went to Floyd's for lunch, and it was her first time eating there. We sat beside the fish tank which actually provided lots of entertainment. After lunch, my mom and I went shopping. She dropped me off at my house just before 3:30, and at 3:30 I had to leave so I could meet Juli downtown by 4pm. We did stuff around downtown. She got bored really easily, and it was a grand 'ol time. at 7:30 we were meeting Ryan Tandy and his girlfriend so that we could go back to Juli's house and play board games. We ended up playing Scattegories and that was a blast! Just after 10pm, Renee came to pick me up and we went back to my house to play board games. Fun day!
Saturday, Renee came to pick me up and we went for lunch. Then we drove to Kinsmen Park and just walked around there and sat and watched these kayakers go through this part against a really strong current. We made a bit of a game out of it and I lost. hahaha. Then we came back to my house, played some table pool and then I got ready to leave to go to Sam's BBQ. Sam's BBQ was a lot of fun. Renee was nice (or crazy) enough to come pick Brian and I up from the party and drive us home. It was great!
Today, I am super tired. there are so many mistakes in this and I just plum don't feel like re-reading it to correct them. haha.
I feel like taking a nap. hahaha. Board games are going on right now. However, they are playing the ones that need thinking to happen. I am unable to do that right now.
OKIE DOKIE SMOKIE!!!
Glad we had this chat.
talk to you later!

Flossing
Ok, let's get straight to it....
FLOSSING HURTS! I don't know about any of you, but I don't floss. Why? BECAUSE PUTTING A STRING BETWEEN MY TEETH IS UNCOMFORTABLE!
Ok, how did this come up? Well sit down folks (if you aren't already sitting) and get comfortable!
I have a week off coming up at work. I took it now because we have a girl at work who is leaving.. and so right now we have an extra staff member while were in our training/transition period. So now seemed like the perfect time.
What am I going to do this week off? Well, I'm going to sort my life out. No.. ok, kidding. But I am going to cram into those days as much of the stuff that I can't do now because I'm at work during the week when most places are open.
I am going to the eye doctor, going to attempt to find a family doctor (since mine abandoned me. She was only my doctor for 21 years... she could at least show a little dedication. HAHA) Alright.... so also... I'm going to the dentist. The last time I went to the dentist was in 2008 (yes, I am fully aware that it is the end of 2009) I had undergone a tonsilectomy approximately a week and a half prior and my heavy painkillers masked the pain of an infection in my mouth.
When I started taking less painkillers, I became more and more aware of the fact that my mouth was causing me serious agony.
I went the dentist and he told me that the infection in my tooth had become so bad that I needed a rootcanal. However, because I left it for longer than most could (thanks to codeine, codeine and more codeine) they had to do half now to release the pressure and then the rest later after I take some stuff to combat the infection. Awesome.
Oh wait, NOT AWESOME! So I had a half a root canal one day (bear in mind that I had to keep my mouth open during this and it hurt because of my throat having just had pieces cut out of it) and then about a week later I had the rest done.
Have any of you had a root canal!?!?! I shudder just at the thought of them. Scraping inside your tooth to get everything out. *vomit*
Anyway, that was my last visit. SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO *ahem* pleasant. yeah.
So, I have brushed my teeth to the best of my ability since then. Hoping to never need to go again. However, about 2 months ago while I was chewing gum I starting having a coppery taste in my mouth. I didn't need to look at the gum package (or the price tag) to know that I wasn't chewing "penny" gum (waahh wohhhnnn).
I made the excuse that I couldn't find time to go, since I work during their hours of operation. No excuse left now. I have to go.
I don't know about when you know you're going to the dentist... but me, I try extra hard to make sure that I don't need any heavy duty work done because there is no pain like mouth pain.
The appointment is going to be next week... so its crunch time. Brushing and brushing... but what else can I do?
Floss??? No, not that. ANYTHING BUT THAT!!!
But I'm desperate. I kid you not, I don't want to have to do more than one visit. or spend any part of my "vacation" in pain.
Here I sit, floss beside me. Having just REALLY flossed for the first time in I have no effing idea how long... and my gums are NOT happy.
So tell me? Do you floss????
Because I may floss everyday up until I go to the dentist. but I can 100% assure you that after that appointment, it won't be until the week before my next dentist appointment that I do this again.

Ramblings
So i named my blog "Ramblings of a girl named Nikki".
However, i haven't really ever done a real RAMBLE.
My family sure knows I can ramble.
Let's see... first thing to come to mind.
This past saturday my sister and I painted. Yeah, that's right. Canvases. Like the pros. Ok, maybe not so much like pros... since we bought tempra paints and realized those are too watery for canvas... oops.
I compare painting to playing pool. I'm so terrible at it, but you can do it with friends and its fun!
Did you know that every saturday my sister and I hang out? We are pretty awesome. Sometimes we make plans days ahead, and sometimes she'll come and pick me up and we'll start driving without a destination in mind.
Depending on when her husband works is when we start our day together. For example, if he works at noon, she'll pick me up after dropping him off. If he works at 7, we MAY get together at 7... but most of the time... its noon. Haha.
This saturday we are hanging out after she drops him off for a 7 o'clock start. Which is good... because this is our last Saturday together before Renee starts her job.
(Oh by the way Renee, this is our last Saturday together before you start your job. haha)
The saturday after this my work is having a summer BBQ up in Nanaimo (we have two offices, one here in Victoria and one in Nanaimo!) We are going to be going to Wild Play Element Park.... should be interesting. Hahaha.
Currently, I'm uploading a video for Youtube.com.
at the moment that I'm writing this it is not ready yet. However, I'm hoping that when you read this, it will be.
Ok, that's enough for now. I'm hungry! I have no idea what i should have.... I'll have to figure that out too. haha
Well, Toodles!
PS (I'm posting in here like a MADWOMAN! Look at me go! lol)

BLARG!
Hey-ya!
So... right at this moment I am frustrated. My head hurts. UGH!
So yesterday:
I woke up at the time I was supposed to be leaving. I went to the bathroom to dicover it was "that time" which is never a fun time. I rushed to get out of the house with enough time to jog to Tim Hortons and make it to Wal-Mart on time to meet my friends for coffee.
I don't drink my coffee until I get to work because otherwise I will spill it on me on the way to work. haha.
So I got to work and opened it up, and the lid had been marked wrong.
I figured nothing else could go wrong. Since EVERYTHING else had.
However, I was in a sour mood (probably due to the time of the month it is) and so little nitpicky things that happened between co-workers yesterday just were bigger to me.
After having what felt like a super crappy day, I got home and vented to my brother... poor Brian. By the time I was done telling the story of the day I was yelling and cursing.
My family minus my brother and brother in law went to Columbo's for dinner. I love this restaurant. Other than being expensive, there are no downsides. (ok, other the fact that the food portions are so big that even after eating half the meal I was so full I couldn't have dessert).
I had hoped that today would be a better day.
I woke up on time (I set the alarm for earlier and snoozed buttoned it up, lol) and ended up leaving super early (probably because I'm so used to rushing to get ready).
Which also meant no line up at Tim Horton's. My best friend was able to come out for her break as soon as I got there, so everything was ahead of schedule.
I even go to work about 10 minutes earlier than usual. (and I normally get to work early).
However, I got to work... and as the day is progressing, I am becoming very angry again.
At lunchtime (just about 20 minutes ago) I was confronted by one of my co-workers for having "off days". The truth of the matter is, I'm PMSing and taking things that she says negatively. Through no fault of her own she is pissing me off. I should probably apologize... because when she confronted me to see if I was alright, I just thanked her sarcastically and went about eating. What an ass. *sigh*
Oh well... I guess I deserve to be pissed off.
I think I just need some sleep. and some midol maybe. lmao.
Talk to you soon!
